DoYoun Kim is a Korean-born double bassist, educator, and orchestral musician based in Oklahoma. He currently serves as a Section Bassist with both the Oklahoma City Philharmonic and the Tulsa Symphony Orchestra, while also teaching orchestra in Norman Public Schools as Orchestra Director. In addition, he is an instructor for the Oklahoma City Philharmonic Adult Orchestra Program Society of Strings, where he teaches the Beginner Bass Class and enjoys introducing new musicians to the double bass.

Before settling in Oklahoma, DoYoun performed with numerous orchestras throughout Texas, including the Victoria Symphony, Abilene Philharmonic, Central Texas Philharmonic, Waco Symphony Orchestra, and San Antonio Symphony. These experiences have shaped him into a versatile performer with extensive orchestral and ensemble experience.

 

An active chamber musician, DoYoun has served as Principal Bass of the New Texas Sinfonia since 2021 and has also performed with the Dallas Chamber Symphony. His chamber music career reflects his passion for collaboration, artistry, and musical communication.

DoYoun earned his Doctor of Musical Arts in Double Bass Performance from the University of Texas at Austin, where he studied with Professor DaXun Zhang and Joel Braun, whose guidance helped shape his artistic and technical development.

 

As both a performer and educator, DoYoun is passionate about helping students of all ages develop confidence, strong technical foundations, and a lifelong appreciation for music. Whether preparing students for auditions, orchestra participation, or personal musical growth, he strives to create a supportive and inspiring learning environment where every student can reach their full potential.
