A highly skilled Double Bassist with an impressive orchestral and chamber music background. Born and raised in Korea, DoYoun's passion for music led him on a journey across the world, enriching his musical repertoire and experiences.

 

DoYoun's journey as a musician began in Korea where he was born and raised. He currently serves as a dedicated Section Member of the Tulsa Symphony Orchestra and a Substitute Bass member with the Oklahoma City Philharmonic Orchestra. During his time in the U.S., DoYoun contributed his exceptional talent as a Section Member to the Victoria, Abilene, Central Texas, Waco,  and San Antonio Symphony Orchestra.

 

As a chamber musician, DoYoun continues to make a significant impact as the Principal of the New Texas Sinfonia since 2021, displaying his leadership and artistic skills. As a Section Member of the Dallas Chamber Symphony, he collaborates and enriches the chamber music experience for audiences.

Bassist and Educator

DoYoun has also taken on various Teaching roles. DoYoun serves as the Music Director and Choir Conductor at the Korean First Presbyterian Church. During his role as a Teaching Assistant at the UT Butler School of Music, DoYoun imparted his expertise to double bass students by helping them improve their musical skills. During his time in Korea, DoYoun served as a Double Bass instructor at HanYang High School, SaetByoul Middle School, and Seongnam Youth Orchestra Association, where he not only taught introductory bass lessons but also fostered a love for music through beginner-level Music Theory classes. 

 

DoYoun achieved his D.M.A. and M.M. in Double Bass Performance from The University of Texas at Austin, under the guidance of Joel Braun and DaXun Zhang. His foundational training began at HanYang University in Seoul, Korea, where he completed his B.M. in Double Bass Performance studying under the esteemed YoungSoo Lee.

Through his captivating performances, inspiring teaching, and unwavering dedication to his craft, DoYoun Kim continues to leave an indelible mark on the world of music, enriching the lives of audiences and aspiring musicians alike.
